A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputy was killed in a crash Friday morning in the 9200 block of Airline Highway.
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the deadly crash. They said the motorcycle deputy was struck from behind by another vehicle while escorting a funeral procession.
"The deputy was transported to a local hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased. The driver of the automobile was also transported to the hospital for treatment," said NOPD.
FOX 8 reports the JPSO deputy was a 16-year law enforcement veteran, including 14 years with the Sheriff's Office.
"The NOPD offers its condolences and continued support to the JPSO, who is a valued law enforcement partner, as well as to the family of the deputy involved in this incident," the department said.
