St. Tammany Parish president Mike Cooper isn't running for a third term.

Cooper has nearly two years left in his current term, but announced his decision early before supporters could start having fundraisers for his re-election.

Prior to serving as parish president, Cooper was the mayor of Covington.

Possible candidates to succeed Cooper may include his CAO Gina Hayes, Mandeville Mayor Clay Madden, and Greg Cromer, the former mayor of Slidell.

The election is in the fall of next year.
