U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana is asking the Trump administration to protect the state's shrimp industry.

Higgins wrote a letter to the president and cabinet members addressing the impact of lowering tariffs on imported Indian seafood.

Higgins wants the Department of Agriculture to buy wild-caught Gulf shrimp for donation to school lunch programs and other possible recipients.

He says the federal purchase would help stabilize the price of Louisiana shrimp.
