A proposed constitutional amendment would empower the governor to remove judges and district attorneys under certain circumstances.
Republican State Sen. Jay Morris's bill would allow the governor to take action if they are deemed incompetent or if there's evidence of malfeasance or misconduct. Opponents say the measure would undermine the voters who elected them.
There's also concern that the term "incompetent" could be abused for political purposes.
Morris says the amendment would require a two-thirds vote in the Senate to approve a removal.
