One Killed, Two Injured After Amtrak Train Crashes Into Truck Near Amite

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly collision between an Amtrak train and a truck in Amite on Wednesday.

Deputies responded around 2:40 p.m. to the crash on Highway 51 at Ponders Quarters Lane.

Investigators say the truck's driver was hospitalized, and the passenger was killed. One of the train's 149 passengers was also taken to the hospital with a panic attack.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
