LSU is bringing back a familiar face to lead its men's basketball team.

The school announced that it is hiring Will Wade to be the next head coach of the Tigers. Wade will be leaving NC State to return to the program that he coached from 2017 to 2022.

"This was not an easy decision, because of how much respect and appreciation I have for this program and this university. But the opportunity to return to Louisiana State University is deeply personal. It's a chance to go home - to a place that means a great deal to me and my family," Wade said in a post on X.

"As LSU fans know well, Will is a consistent winner, a diligent program-builder, and a charismatic leader with an incredible ability to connect with his student-athletes and the fan base," said LSU Vice President/Director of Athletics Verge Ausberry. "Not only does he bring his postseason pedigree and an energetic presence, but he is innovative and strategic at a time in college athletics that requires both. We are thrilled to have Will and his family with us in Baton Rouge again."

Wade was suspended as Tigers' coach for the 2019 NCAA tournament and was later fired amid an NCAA probe that left the program with serious sanctions. He was eventually replaced by Matt McMahon who posted an 60-70 record overall in Baton Rouge, going 17-55 in conference play.

LSU will have to pay NC State a buyout of $4 million to bring Wade back.
