New Orleans leaders are opposing state legislation that would eliminate judgeships and restructure the city's court system.

On Monday, City Council members and court officials said state lawmakers are making rushed decisions based on incomplete data.

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee advanced a bill that would combine Orleans Parish Civil District Court and Criminal District Court into a new 41st Judicial District Court. It would eliminate nine judgeships and fold juvenile court into a division within the new district court.
