Kenner Man Arrested For Test-Firing Rifle Into Canal

A Kenner man faces charges for reportedly firing his new semi-automatic rifle into a canal early Easter morning.

Officers responded around 4 a.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired near Vintage Drive and Iowa Avenue.

They encountered Anthony Tellez, who told officers he wanted to test his new rifle by firing into the canal.

Police arrested Tellez for illegal discharge of a firearm. Officers say they found at least a dozen shell casings near the canal.
