A bill requiring voter registrations to be checked against a national database is on its way to the Louisiana Senate.

The state House of Representatives passed House Bill 691 on Friday.

The legislation would require Louisiana's Secretary of State to submit details on every registered voter to the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements Program every year to investigate voter eligibility.

The Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs will consider the bill.
