Amtrak's Mardi Gras Service is reportedly exceeding ridership expectations since it started rolling last August.

Tourism officials had projected the Gulf Coast line would carry 75,000 passengers in its first year. After only eight months, it's closing in on 100,000 riders.

The twice-daily passenger route connects New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama, with several stops along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
