The Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans says repairs should start later this week on a damaged sewer main near the Industrial Canal.
Officials say a vessel hit the sewer line last Friday, causing a 40-foot break in the pipe and sending about 12 million gallons of sewage into the canal.
The utility says crews won't be able to stop the flow until they get the equipment they need.
Temporary line stoppers are expected to arrive on Thursday, allowing crews to start isolating the break. Permanent repairs may begin on Friday.
