The first employees of the New Orleans Street Maintenance Unit are ready to hit the streets.
The Mayor's Office says the newly established unit will be an in-house street and infrastructure repair group.
The new crew members will focus on resurfacing operations and sidewalk repairs. City officials say their work will complement pothole repair teams that are already in action.
Public Works plans to hire 50 employees to staff the new street paving unit.
