State Treasurer John Fleming says he expects Louisiana to have a budget surplus of $293 million at the end of the 2026 fiscal year.
The Republican official gave credit to the state legislature for not automatically increasing the budget year after year.
Fleming says the nation's economy is leaving California, New York, and Illinois and moving to the south.
But he says it's going to Texas, Florida, and Tennessee, not Louisiana, because those states don't have personal income taxes.
