Next month's House primary election in Louisiana is on hold.
Gov. Jeff Landry says that this week's Supreme Court ruling prohibits voting under the current maps and issued an order delaying the primary on Thursday.
"This executive order ensures we uphold the rule of law while giving the Legislature the time it needs to pass a fair and lawful congressional map," the governor added.
The order pushes the House races to July 15th "or until such time as determined by the legislature." The election had been scheduled for May 16th with a June 27th run-off date.
The closely-watched race for Senate, where Sen. Bill Cassidy is challenged by Congresswoman Julia Letlow and State Treasurer John Fleming, is not affected. Offer offices and ballot measures are also not impacted.
Early voting begins this Saturday.
