Michelle Woodfork was sworn in today as the new sheriff of Orleans Parish.
Woodfork assumed responsibility for operating the parish jail at Noon.
She is the former interim superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department and was elected sheriff last year.
On Wednesday of last week, a grand jury indicted outgoing Sheriff Susan Hutson on 30 counts of malfeasance in office, obstruction of justice, and falsifying public records.
Last May, ten inmates broke out of the parish jail on Hutson's watch.
