Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is threatening New Orleans leaders with legal action after they installed an interim clerk of the city's civil and criminal courts and called a special election to fill the position.
Murrill on Wednesday warned the city council, Mayor Helena Moreno, Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams, and retired judge Calvin Johnson that the council's installation of Johnson as interim clerk and setting the special election could violate the state's usurper laws.
She said there could be "serious consequences," including possible removal from office.
Moreno said she won't be intimidated by Murrill.
