A Mardi Gras krewe captain says the city of New Orleans is considering asking Carnival float riders to pay a new riding fee starting in 2027.
The city announced that its expenses in the 2026 Carnival season were more than its revenue to the tune of $3.75 million and that all revenue-raising options are on the table.
Gian Durand of the Krewe of Oshun said she and other krewe captains recently had a meeting in which they discussed the possibility that each float rider may be asked to pay the city a $25 fee.
The city says no officials were in on that meeting, and hasn't confirmed that a fee is being considered.
