The University of New Orleans plans to revive its marching band program for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Last time the school had a marching band, it was still known as LSU New Orleans, which will soon be its name again.

University officials announced Thursday that they've hired New Orleans native Eddie Williams Jr. to be the school's new band director.

The university plans to have a marching band that can perform at athletic events and participate in Mardi Gras parades by 2028.
