A judge is blocking Gov. Jeff Landry's plan to pay one-time teacher and staff stipends from the state's school system funding program.
The judge issued a temporary restraining order on Thursday in response to a lawsuit challenging Landry's executive order signed earlier this month.
The order sought to redirect $168 million from the Minimum Foundation Program to pay $2,000 stipends to teachers and $1,000 stipends to staff.
The court agreed with the plaintiffs that the order is unconstitutional.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says the temporary restraining order was "improperly granted."
