Fewer Louisiana families are getting federal food benefits.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities updated its SNAP tracker Monday, showing Louisiana participation down 21 percent since last July.

The group says child enrollment fell by roughly 83,000, making children nearly half of the state's total drop.

The policy group says the drop is tied to new federal rules and state checks meant to catch payment mistakes.
