A massive clean energy project is dead, leaving a multi-billion-dollar hole in Louisiana's industrial corridor.
Energy giant Air Products said Tuesday it's scrapping its clean hydrogen plant in Ascension Parish. The facility was built to trap carbon pollution and pump it under Lake Maurepas, but it faced years of local pushback.
The decision follows rising costs and the slashing of clean energy tax credits.
Air Products will take a nearly $3 billion financial hit for walking away from Louisiana, but is still moving ahead with a separate fuel deal in Saudi Arabia.
