Preparations are being made to observe Hurricane Katrina's 21st anniversary.

On Monday, city officials joined the group New Orleans Katrina Commemoration Inc. on the steps of City Hall to express the need to honor the anniversary.

This Saturday, community members will meet in the Lower Ninth Ward for the annual Hurricane Katrina march and second-line.

On August 29th, 2005, the Category 5 hurricane made landfall, flooding New Orleans and killing more than a thousand people.
