Steve Alfonso is the new interim superintendent of St. Tammany Parish Schools.
The school board named Alfonso on Monday night to step in after the abrupt departure of Superintendent Frank Jabbia.
Alfonso will serve through the end of the 2026-27 school year.
He formerly served as the district's associate superintendent of administration and human resources.
Jabbia retired after calls for him to step down following claims of unreported instances of child abuse at a district school.
