The Audubon Zoo is announcing the death of one of its giraffes.
The zoo stated on Monday that four-year-old Fennessy had been put down after a period of declining health, including lethargy and not eating.
Fennessy's condition grew worse despite the attention of the zoo's veterinary team, until the decision was made to euthanize the giraffe.
Fennessy was named for the director of the Giraffe Conservation Fund, Julian Fennessy.
His demise leaves one giraffe on exhibit at the Audubon Zoo.
