The Department of Public Works is tasked with coming up with a plan to fix interstate highway street lights darkened by copper thieves.

New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno gave the department the assignment on Wednesday morning.

Earlier this month, Moreno contacted the Louisiana State Police and suggested the governor's Troop NOLA officers could keep an eye out for the thieves.

Moreno says Public Works may want to look into switching to aluminum wire or solar-powered street lights.
