Heavy Rain Threat For South Louisiana From Gulf System

Forecasters warn of a heavy rain threat for southern Louisiana from a low pressure system heading for the Gulf.

The disorganized system was located just offshore the east coast of Florida Tuesday morning. It's expected to drift westwards into the northern Gulf by tomorrow.

"Environmental conditions appear generally favorable for additional development, and a tropical depression could form while the system moves across the northeastern and north-central Gulf," said Dr. Lisa Bucci with the National Hurricane Center.

"While we're confident there will be a heavy rain threat, there is little confidence in the exact rainfall totals or where the heaviest rain will fall, and rainfall forecasts will continue to be refined over the coming days," said the National Weather Service office in Slidell. "Currently the forecast calls for 3-6" of rain during the Wednesday - Sunday time frame, but there is potential for much higher amounts, with some locations possibly seeing totals of 8-10" of rain."

Residents are urged to review their storm plans now.
