Tropical Storm Erin Expected To Gradually Intensify

Tropical Storm Erin is quickly moving westward over the Atlantic Ocean.

The National Hurricane Center says Erin could strengthen into a hurricane by late Thursday. The storm is currently churning in the eastern Atlantic after forming just west of the Cabo Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds near 45 miles per hour.

Erin is not currently expected to threaten the Gulf Coast.

Meanwhile, an area of disturbed weather off the coast of Louisiana is expected to move inland today, bringing the possibility of periods of heavy rain.
