Fact-Checking Dems on the Lies They Told Last Night (There Were Many)

Last night the Democrat primary candidates all made some extremely bold claims & promises - but how much of it was true?

Short answer: not much.

--------

BETO on last month’s mass shooting in El Paso: “Everything that I’ve learned about resilience, I’ve learned from my hometown of El Paso, Texas, in the face of this act of terror, that was directed at our community, in large part by the president of the United States. It killed 22 people, and injured many more, we were not defeated by that. Nor were we defined by that.”

Nobody has claimed that Trump “directed” the shooting, as O’Rourke suggested.

O’Rourke said the shooter was “inspired to kill by our president,” which was something Castro also said.

This claim is false! There is no evidence the El Paso shooter was inspired by Trump. Just the opposite, actually - the shooter said he was not inspired by Trump.

----

BERNIE: “We have the highest child poverty rate of almost any country on Earth.”

NOPE! In fact, there are about 200 countries in the world with so much poverty most Americans couldn't even fathom the struggle. In 2018 the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development updated their child poverty report and the United States was well above average. We fared better than Russia, Chile, Spain, India, Turkey, Israel, Costa Rica, Brazil, South Africa and China, just to name a few.

----

BIDEN: The Obama administration "didn’t lock people up in cages, we didn’t separate families.”

FALSE! In 2013 Breitbart Texas published photos of hundreds of children in "Cages" (chain link fences) at a facility near our border and Democrats didn't care. Obama deported and detained more illegal migrants than any previous administration in recent history.

----

SANDERS: “Every study done shows that ‘Medicare for All’ is the most cost-effective approach to providing health care to every man, woman and child in this country.”

Not even close - there are plenty of studies indicating Sanders' healthcare plan would destroy our economy and lower the quality of American healthcare for generations to come. There's a reason why people from all over the world travel to the US for healthcare - we're not a socialist third world hell hole. Let's try to keep it that way.

----

KAMALA on Trump: “The only reason he has not been indicted is because there was a memo in the Department of Justice that says a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime.”

This is blatantly untrue - Kamala is just making things up.

HOUSTON, TEXAS - SEPTEMBER 12: Democratic presidential candidates South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) on stage during the Democratic Presidential Debate at Texas Southern University's Health and PE Center on September 12, 2019 in Houston, Texas. Ten Democratic presidential hopefuls were chosen from the larger field of candidates to participate in the debate hosted by ABC News in partnership with Univision.
