State health officials say they continue to be cautiously optimistic that social distancing measures are working to plateau the coronavirus outbreak.

Louisiana Coronavirus Thursday Update: 18,823 Cases, 702 Deaths

The Louisiana Department of Health said there are 2,014 hospitalized with 473 on ventilators.

Governor Edwards again said projection models point to the curve flattening because even though deaths continue, new cases are slowing, and hospital resources are no longer being strained.

Edwards also said there is a good chance schools will not reopen and remain closed for the rest of the academic year.
