The Press Club of New Orleans may hold off awarding its scholarship this year after an apparent case of embezzlement.

A recent audit reportedly discovered that former club president and treasurer David T. Baker had used a club debit card to spend nearly $50,000 on expensive meals and dozens of rideshares.

Baker, an associate editor at the Louisiana Weekly, resigned from the club position and has agreed to a repayment plan.

An attorney says the club is still considering civil and criminal remedies.
